ok so how does the internet going away make cults stop if cults existed before the internet?

I mean I understand the logic of 'the internet makes this one specific thing worse' but using that logic to justify that the internet has set society itself down the path of doom or whatever is just nonsense.

Never said that, you should take that up with another poster that did say the Internet was an overall downward trend for humanity. Imo it's both the greatest benefit to humanity, & also one of the greatest negatives. I wouldn't ever say get rid of the Internet, just not that it's only an objective good when there's a lot of things the Internet does make more possible that are awful because it exists & enables it, & wouldn't be as bad hypothetically if it didn't exist.
