Combine that with a slice-of-life plot about simply making Pokemon happy, and you've got a cheerful, cozy show. Also, the theme song is a brand new song by Mariya Takeuchi, who became famous after her song Plastic Love got blessed by the algorithm some 30+ years after it was written. It introduced a lot of people to the genre of city pop.
