The lie is that his name is Jack Skellington when the movie only ever called him Skeleton Jack, Jack, or the Pumpkin King.

I was being facetious. It's not unheard of for characters to receive their official name in marketing after a movie has come out. Annabelle from All Dogs Go to Heaven was listed only as the Whippet Angel in the movie's credits and Toxie from The Toxic Avenger was only ever called the monster or referred to by his human name: Melvin. I would also lump in Rexy from the Jurassic Park/Jurassic World series, but that was her nickname in the original novel. It just took thirty years before they decided to canonize it in merch and advertising.

At no point did I remotely imply that the past had somehow shifted.
