roger ebert is the most famous obviously. probably the most influential in the sense that he was on tv and probably inspired people to think they could do the same thing. which was probably a net negative since we have people like cinema sins and grace randolph and chris stuckmann now.

pauline kael, andre bazin, james agee, manny farber, robin wood, and andrew sarris were all pretty famous or influential before ebert. in addition to, like, bosley crowther, but he was terrible. there's also the french critics at cahiers du cinema in the 50s who went on to become filmmakers themselves.

i don't think people read reviews anymore which is sad. oh well.
yeah prob most people are much less interested in what movie critics think of movies, then again going to the movies and movie watching in general, might really be down, from those days
