Every time his life is going well they do some stupid shit to make him miserable and set him back. They had Norman get Gwen pregnant, she died and then Norman had the kids pretend they were Peter's to torment him. They eventually retconned this because this storyline was so bad. Then there was One More Day which had Peter go against everything Aunt May would want for him and he gave up his marriage to bring her back to life.
