It's a double edged sword. It's an old engine with limitations. But other engines also aren't designed with Bethesda stuff to take into account so they're limited in different ways. Which is why nobody else has stuff like object persistence.

There was a tweet from Josh Sawyer that went into how Unreal Engine 5 still doesn't have stuff that Bethesda games can do for two decades now.

An example of how this could go wrong is Bioware. People loved Frostbite. So Bioware moved to it only to realise the engine didn't have anything that worked for their games. No inventory or dialogue system. It made the development much harder and Dragon Age Inquisition still released with limitations.
