Agreed. It went downhill after he got in. McCain is a decent guy. RIP to him. He started to support healthcare at the end.

neoliberal holding pattern who disguised himself as a progressive candidate
Yeah he was definitely moderate in most areas, but I believe tried to be progressive with healthcare. He just couldn't get very far with it.

I don't know if we can ever get any left leaning progressive candidate anytime soon. DNC is rigged and threw Bernie over the bus twice, and RNC is just as bad in their own ways. The fact that the big media outlets don't even give 3rd party candidates the same lime light is also telling. I really hate that it's rigged for just those two.

Largely ineffectual, especially internationally, and shifted the country rightward mostly just by being there.

Jimmy Carter is a decent guy, but he was completely abysmal as president.
He didn't turn the country right. He gave into the right by going bipartisan and failing. But he was kinda locked a way. While the right would never do that.

Yeah I had a feeling you were getting to that. Obama was far more accomplished in policies. Bin laden, healthcare, got us out of Bush Jr's debt. He isn't perfect by any means of course. Especially with the war stuff.
