Yeah, them. The whole "fox only, final destination" crowd, the ones who only like melee because of wave dashing which give all fans of melee a bad rep.
  1. That's a strawman.
  2. Ultimate has the same crowd of competitive players.

I like Melee because the movement feels better and characters feel more varied. There feels like more variation between Fox and Falco in Melee than there is between Olimar and Richter in Ultimate. Ultimate has a handful of archetypes that almost all the cast falls, making it feel like you're fighting the same 6-10 characters out of 89; Melee has ~22 unique characters with only Roy and Mario feeling like inferior clones to Marth and Doc respectively.

If Ultimate just made dashing a bit smoother, changed auto-canceled aerials, let jumps benefit from momentum, and lowered the buffer window it'd feel a lot smoother and open more room for variety. Instead, almost every character has this super snappy fixed-length dash, sticks to platforms, and jumps an almost set height. It's a fantastic party game and the character selection is obviously amazing, I just wish that the character felt more unique.
