There are only a few movies worth watching, but a number of them directly contradict their own timeline. Example: movie 12 takes place during the Buu saga, but there's no point in that arc where it would make sense for that movie to happen (Vegeta is still dead in the film but discovers Goku can go SSJ3, yet in the series, he does not know of this until after he's revived. I think that's correct at least). It's still one of the best, though.

If you just want canon stuff, watch the original DB (skip the fillers, animefillerlist.com has a comprehensive list), then watch DB Kai (the original Z is pretty terrible nowadays; not only is the pacing atrocious, but so is the dialogue), then Battle of Gods and Resurrection F and continue with Super from that point on. Really though, from what I've seen of GT, it is worth watching as well (I personally LOVE the Baby arc). At the very least, it's more visually pleasing than Super.
