Diablo II the original is one of my favorite games of all time and definitely the game I've put the most hours into going back 23 years ago. My brother and I both never really stopped playing it over the years and have done almost all there is to be done in that game. There's probably no other game out there I know as well as this one. With the remake released 2 years ago of course I was going to play that as well. I did an initial playthrough at release, then had to put it down for other games, but came back to it December of last year to finally try and finish it off. 6 months later it's finally done and I'm proud to have this one as my 500th platinum.

My final time according to my PS5 is around 433 hours played, but that's not counting time played on PC also which I also did from time to time. As you can imagine this one is a bit of doozy although it's actually easier now than it was last year thanks to the introduction of Terror Zones. In the past once you hit the 90s, the rate of gaining experience would slow to a crawl and would only get worse with each level up. It would take nearly 2000 hours to get to level 99 and was something I never really bothered to do. I think my highest level character in the past was 94. Enter Terror Zones however which rotates areas every hour and makes all enemies in that area match your level up to 96 for normal enemies and 99 for bosses and super uniques. Although this made areas much harder, it also cut the grind down considerably if you're playing with 7 or 8 players (or doing it solo in single player with players8 turned on).

Anyway as you can imagine it's still quite a long time and you have to get to level 99 on Hardcore mode to boot so that's a ton of fun XD. I've always lived the Paladin life so whether it was a Hammerdin most of the way there or respeccing to a Fist of the Heavens and the end and only running Terrorized Chaos Sanctuary at the end it's just the way I like to play this game.

You'll get the platinum by hitting the following benchmarks, which is pretty much doing everything the game has to offer. Everything else will come naturally while going for these

  • Completing the game on Hell difficulty with all 7 classes
  • Complete all Quests/Activate all Waypoints
  • Various Horadric Cube shenanigans
  • Equip all Uniques and complete a set
  • Acquire a Unique through gambling (Hello Gull Dagger)
  • Collect 20 ears in PvP
  • Obtain an SoJ
  • Obtain the Standard of Heroes (Complete Pandemonium Event)
  • Reach Level 99 with a Hardcore character

Been playing a lot of Diablo IV as well these past few weeks and have been enjoying it. Was never a big fan of DIablo III though I only played it once back when it released and haven't touched it since. I'll probably play the console version at some point though just to get that platinum out of the way. Back to FF16 for now though and maybe I can finally consider retiring Diablo II for good now.
