I always thought book smart was stuff you learned in school, science, history, geography etc. Pop culture would be the opposite of that. Memorizing a bunch of trivia doesn't make you book smart. And yes there have been several Jeopardy champions who won purely by pop culture knowledge and knowing next to nothing about school subjects.

Eh, having information about school subjects doesn't really mean you're smart of intelligent, either.
It's no different from pop culture knowledge, when you get right down to it.

It's the ability to apply that knowledge that makes you smart/intelligent.

For example, if you memorize an equation or concept, you have a knowledge of that equation or concept.
But if you understand/comprehend that and can apply it to solve a situation/problem, then that makes you smart/intelligent (or at least more so than the guy who just have the information of the equation/concept).
