I would say it works because
the pathos comes from the heroism of Zelda's choice/her sacrifice. Good endings don't ruin tragic events - resurrections are fine. I think in this case the resurrection should have been delayed for a game perhaps. Have the follow-up dedicated to finding a way to cure Zelda. Make it a bit harder. But in general I think it's fine that she came back.
