Not only that (and it should be noted that Skyward Sword HD also sold really well) but Links Awakening Switch outsold all previous versions of Links Awakening combined, was the fastest selling 2D game in the series, outsold every other 2D game except for the original lifetime in its first two years and by this point is probably the highest selling 2D game. All this despite being a high price point for a Game Boy remake. The business case for new 2D games is obvious.
