Console exclusives like how Nintendo does it is good for the industry. Console exclusives where you just pay another company to release their game only on your console are terrible. Nintendo having the control they have is what gives them great opportunities to release the quality of games they can develop, publish, and ultimately release on their very own console. Plus, it encourages them to truly make a great game since their strategy to sell consoles relies on their brand being seen as a prestigious game studio, which as of now, they are.

Nintendo also pays for exclusives. All three of them do both.
