I was 11 and while I still liked kiddie stuff like Nickelodeon and such, I'm pretty sure I was already transitioning to more of a teenage mindset at this age. I know I was watching MTV a lot more (which was actually really awesome back then, not the borefest it is nowadays.) I didn't know much about music yet so I was listening to a lot of the stuff my older brother listened to. Smashing Pumpkins, Tupac, and Oasis got regular play.

Oh yeah, also the Beatles had a comeback of sorts around this time, because they released their Anthology (unreleased recordings/demos + a book and a documentary.) It was a pretty big deal from what I recall.

This was also the year I was exposed to the internet, though I didn't spend much time on it. We had dial-up and it was slow as heck, websites were few and very janky. When I did get some time on the computer, I would usually be on Worlds Chat, which was a primitive avatar type chat (the avatars were similar to the sprites in DOOM.)

One of the things I remember about it was that the OJ Simpson trial was still fresh on everyone's mind, and one of the avatars on there was of a woman that reminded me of Nicole Brown Simpson, and the avatar was just this woman's head. So I thought of it as a Nicole Simpson severed head avatar.

Here's a couple of screenshots of this program as it looked back when I was using it, where you can see this weird head avatar.
