The only other option was for Gene to shoot himself before he knew Barry was going to confess, but then they were talking too long for me to buy that Gene didn't know Barry was there. I liked that scene, but the in-universe poorly acted movie putting him up on a pedestal didn't sit well with me. It was too good of an ending for him. I do wish Hank and Cristobal made it out together but I understand and agree with why that wasn't in the cards. --- "Something's wrong!
