Sunleth (very close!)
depths of the deli.

Moon is a game that I want to love. I tried playing it on emulator some time ago, but just could not get into it. It reminds me of nothing if not Digimon, as in the original PS1 game, and that was a game that I found endlessly fascinating but also just could not enjoy. This is more story focused; that should appeal to me. Perhaps I should give it another chance. As for the song itself, it feels like an argument. Feels like I'm listening to two sides fighting back and forth. Which makes the sudden shift to a pan-less center almost alienating. How am I supposed to interpret the sudden introduction of groove to a previously groove-free zone? It feels like a separate song, and I think I liked the first song more.

Stop. Nomming. Versions. Of XB3 battle themes. That don't. Have. HAM FLUTE. This version is unapologetically boring; it is devoid of energy, or power or drive. I often talk about off-vocal renditions of songs as lacking some je ne sais quois, because as much as I go on about how the human voice is just another instrument to me it is a more powerful, more dynamic, more complex than any other instrument. Well save maybe a piano or a drum set MY POINT IS simply replacing the human voice with a flute playing the same notes makes for a weaker piece. Similarly, these melodies without HAM FLUTE countermelody make for a weaker piece.

The sunleth waterscape is pretty and warm and comfortable and an awesome place to come back to after that rant. All the parts come together, the violins and vocals are a perfect pair. It's interesting how the vocals are so legatto, but when the piano comes in during the interlude, it's so much more stacatto. Just a single eighth note where the singer goes for a full whole note or more. It's a cool contrast.

My first impression of Tranquility was actually kind of negative. It felt empty and incomplete. Turns out this Alto song just wanted to make sure it had room to grow. The crescendo to the climax around 2:45 brought me to tears, just everything coming together for a perfect moment. A team that struggled through the night but is about to meet the dawn, to enjoy the fruits of their labors. Why the heck does Chrome think "labors" is grammatically incorrect I hate grammar check but I can't figure out how to disable grammar in Chrome without also ripping apart spellcheck so alas. Last few minutes of the song feel like a rabbit running along through a plain without a worry in the world. It's a weird way to end for me, feels anticlimactic.

i would love to have a deli be a dungeon in an rpg just saying.
