Saoirse was a rambunctious girl with a passion for nature and biology. There's a world where her natural anti-establishment sensibilities coincide with the path that Catman has taken. He thrived in No Man's Land, a world without rules beyond the Darwinian laws of the jungle, and I think that makes him this sort of pure, noble soul to Saoirse in that his axes to grind are largely the same as hers. He wants no part in the societal structures of iniquity and control. And he's a primal thing, a bestial creature of sorts, but with a thinking mind. Catman possesses all of the traits of someone who can philosophize, though he often does not - and he certainly doesn't grandstand. He's entirely comfortable as himself, and I think that confidence is somewhat alluring to Saoirse as well.

Yeah, that's an apt read.

I think Catman very much represents an extreme of "her choice" when she was around 18. In some ways, he gives her space to be that more innocent girl again, in spite of the not-so-innocent subjects they discuss and display.
