Cleopatra Fortune - SHININ' QUEEN
Final Fantasy VII - J-E-N-O-V-A
Xenogears - One Who Bares Fangs at God

MATCH 1

The piano part of Shinin' Queen at 0:46 is pretty nice. I like the rest of the song too, but that part's definitely my favorite in the song.

Hungary kind of feels like In the Hall of the Mountain King in the sense that it has this gradual increase in tempo and intensity with a dramatic climax at the end. I start to really get into this at the 2:40 mark until the end. Before then, it's fine, but the slow and steady marching of the song isn't really something that interests me. From that point on, though, the change in rhythm and faster tempo gives a sort of flair to the melody that I enjoy. The introduction of the strings at 3:27 was definitely welcome as well. I think I like this more today than I did when filling out the favorites bracket. Still, Shinin' Queen is more consistent overall, so I have to go with that.

MATCH 2

I tend to like arpeggios in VGM, so the downward arpeggio that repeats throughout Jenova is really nice. The dramatic, ever-so-slightly dark melody is appreciated as well. I picked this as my A4 retiree, but I was very torn between it and Immortal. One Who Bears Fangs at God was a worthy contender as well.

Subterranean Sunrise ebbs and flows a lot, with my favorite parts being the ones with the electric guitar in it, especially the last one towards the end of the song.

MATCH 3

I like the bright and happy sound of Sky Land. It has a slight goofiness to it too, like the kind of song that would play when a character does something silly in a game or something like that.

Really love the atmosphere of One Who Bares Fangs at God. Feels like you're in some kind of ancient ruins, chasing after something that's slipping out of reach. There's this feeling of imminence of "there's something I need to do and I have to do it now." Max Galactica described this song as a "soundscape," which makes sense and probably factors in to why I like it a lot. Instrumentation-wise, I love how every instrument works together in unison to create this kind of feeling. Nothing is unimportant or unnecessary. Now that I think about it, these are a few things that I tend to react to positively in songs, so I guess it's no surprise that I like this song as well then.

J-E-N-O-V-A > One Who Bares Fangs at God > Subterranean Sunrise > SHININ' QUEEN > Sky Land > Hungary (The Atomic Era)

Solid day today!
