There is a reason why Chloe Moretz said she would never come back for the 3rd movie unless they got a better writer/director. There is a reason why it made half as much money as the first one at the box office. It was a soulless sequel trying to hard to copy the first one. The villain was so cringy it was impossible to take him as a serious threat. Katie and Dave breaking up makes no sense and craps all over what is established in the first film. The entire Hit Girl vs. Popular girls side plot is terrible and drags the movie. The whole split amongst Dave and his friends makes no sense. Hardly any of the jokes land.
