#14 - PARCH!

Hey. It's my beloved Parch.

Inventor and leader of Big Troubles, Patch separated from Data 7 after his old friends actions caused the capture and likely torture of Isis. Patch decided to go on his own way, searching for the missing kitty, only to become so wildly lost that he wound up in Taos, New Mexico, hunting what appears to be SKULL, an organization with no connection to Isis whatsoever. Fortunately, Nervy was able to convince Patch to mend fences with Data 7, and the pair once more have begun planning to take over the criminal underworld as Big Troubles, alongside Vicki Vale.

Of course, a good chunk of Patch's storyline does focus on those dangerous Big Troubles. Founded by Data 7 and led by Patch, the Big Troubles is a very disreputable organization of criminals that carries out heinous acts in order to amass sizable riches. Comprised of a crack team of talented misfits, learning to live, laugh and love together, the Big Troubles trained, sweated and prepared for their first mission - a trip to the surface of Antarctica, where they battled a titanic penguin with a jetpack and stole heavy ballistic missiles, trading them in for a base at the heart of Zonn Zorr. Recently, while preparing for a second heist, a membership recruitment drive was crashed by the perilous Pixie, who stole away T.C. from the organization as she announced the formation of rival gang the Passable Persuasions. This has turned Data 7 and Patch against their former friends - except not Patch so much, who still enjoys playing with T.C.

Patch represents something willingly lost in Artemis: innocence. Patch goes to great lengths to be happy. And childlike innocence is the lens through which he can see the world and still be innocent. How else do you cope with torture, with a city that sees you as a carrier of disease, with the unsure tomorrow of No Man's Land? By loving today. By loving everyone. By living without tomorrow ever in mind.

The reason Patch loves Starsa is because it's a love that is true, unadulterated, unrequited love. Patch can put Starsa on a pedestal because Starsa in some ways belongs on a pedestal. There are few things that Patch doesn't wholeheartedly embrace for what they are. He's happiness in a family, in some ways, the deepest and purest love there is. Beyond that, Patch fears what else may come. He's happiest playing games, not confronting the fears and hesitations that others must wrestle with in Z'onn Z'orr, and when others do bring the darker realities of the world to him, he simply tries to respond with hope and happiness. That's what he wants, more than anything else. Happy friends. Because maybe, just maybe, if he can distract everyone else with happiness, he can be happy as well.

And then, the unlucky thirteen.
