I've been watching out for little details on this since the prologue seeing as the Imprisoning War is something that happens in one very specific branch but there's a ton of other stuff in this world that already doesn't line up with that at all. Very funny to see after they were so cautious and ambiguous with and even following BotW's release.

I agree, there have always been retcons and stuff but nothing on a scale with what TOTK seems to do.

I feel there are really only two solutions:

1) Multiple Imprisoning Wars, which has its own issues because Rauru is the first king of Hyrule which means it is pre-Minish Cap yet Ganondorfs turned up.

2) The previous games are legend versions and TOTK is showing the real events. The broad strokes of the earlier games happened but not the details.

The simplest way of explaining all of the inconsistencies that TOTK introduces is to say that it and BOTW are in a new continuity. Of course none of these inconsistencies were in BOTW, and Nintendo had states that BOTW was in the same continuity and BOTW has all these hints about the previous games in it, that seems unlikely.

I think whats happened is, BOTW and TOTK are set so far ahead that the previous timeline doesnt matter at all and the Hyrule that Rauru founds is an entirely new one on top of the old Hyrule. So the timeline continues to exist but the storyline that starts with BOTW is basically saying dont worry about it.

It makes me wonder if this is effectively a soft reboot and future games will follow this. I imagine they will probably do a new 2D game next so it will be interesting to see where that goes.
