Two songs from the "covers" section of UF8's post back on Page 5 and three more songs from the "YouTube links I saved without titles so that I don't actually know what they are" pile.

Shanoa - RTRT:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nDt9RO-cjhI

Estimated Score: 93.255

This song isn't quite as far out there as some of The Decemberists songs, but this supernatural tragic comedy was definitely unexpected. I think I love this song; the piano is repetitive, but strangely captivating & her vocals go well with the story. I wasn't expecting to actually feel sad about a zombie having their head blown off by a laser gun, but here we are.

Kumogahata Yaya - Onshitsu Mahou/Greenhouse Magic (original: sea-no):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u49Dk0daMyE

Estimated Score: 57.86

Not bad, I kinda like this one. I'm not finding anything much in the lyrics (at least one of the verses mentions the night, so that's nice but it's not like the night is a particular focus of the song or anything) and the intro is a bit slow, but she performs the song well enough and I don't mind listening to it.

And now I want something different, so let's detour to some other stuff for a bit.

Eastman Wind Ensemble -1st Suite for Military Band in E-Flat Major:
https://youtu.be/lk7c0m7SfNE

Estimated Score: 64.93

Technically I'm just supposed to listen to some of the instruments in one specific part of the song, but a song I'm not supposed to be listening to is an irresistible temptation, so I'm playing the whole thing anyway. Sadly, the aspect of myself most interested in this type of music isn't exactly here at the moment, but I shall do my best to work with the song:

It's pretty good! I'm least interested in the first part of the song which definitely feels like a more generic type of marching music (which could be my imagination, it just feels... old, even by classical standards?), but the second part is neat. it's very quiet, giving it a very ceremonial vibe while still being happy. It's a very "world leader awarding you for your victory" feeling, which is a new emotion to explore. The third movement is more overtly energetic and happy, for celebrating after the formal part of the ceremony is over. It covers quite a bit of ground for being less than three minutes long (not to mention burning part of that runtime on an opening I do not care for).

I'd say probably mid-60s for this song, with an outside chance of the score going wild if I listen to it in a specific frame of mind.

Watame, Mori Calliope - Reaper vs Sheep -Kenko ver-:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_X6UNPq2rY

Estimated Score: 60.00

I feel like I need to go to Mori's channel and listen to that version for the sake of comparison... *checks* ah, good, that is in the pile. ....And listed next in the suggested videos. Cool.

So... "health rap" isn't exactly my type of thing, but the chorus is fun & the guitar solo is good. so I like most of the song in spite of the lyrics encouraging a healthier lifestyle; Watame is definitely the more entertaining part of the song, as her pleading not to be eaten is funny while Calliope doesn't really get any good lines this time around. I'd start the song in the Clump... I think the chorus is strong enough to keep it in the "Like" tier, but

[NOTE: Apparently I forgot to finish that sentence and the writeup just trails off there.]

Watame, Mori Calliope - Reaper vs Sheep -Ouen ver.-:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YOuNKm4ApZY

Estimated Score: 59.78

Yeah, probably should have listened to this one first since it takes place before the other song & was listed first, but I clicked around randomly and this is how it wound up. (Honestly, the songs are mostly standalone enough that it doesn't make much difference). So, the gimmick here is that the two songs are the same musically, but have completely different lyrics; Kenko is an upbeat health rap encouraging Mori & the viewers to eat and sleep instead of dying, while Ouen is a rap battle where Mori is manipulated into endlessly complimenting Watame. It's kinda funny, but also a bit... sad. As Mori gets more and more self-deprecating, Watame comes off bizarrely cold-hearted with a line along the lines of "So, then we're agreed that I win?" and there's never any real payoff. Like, I was waiting for Mori to get angry or at least call her out on the hypocrisy, but the song just kinda ends without Mori getting to do anything.

I mean, it is kinda funny, just... I dunno, I think I prefer the health rap even though this rap battle parody should be more my style.
