Very late response (despite me reading it the same day it was posted) but it's worth noting that that album, and that song in particular, are based heavily on the lead singer coming very close to death from flesh eating bacteria, as doctors kept trying different antibiotics with no results. There's a lot of real emotion going into that song. I'm not sure if that means the character in the song didn't die, though.

I had read a bit about that. With the way the song feels like it's building up to accepting death and then ends on breathing that gradually slows, I have a hard time picturing the singer's character surviving. It feels like that would go against the song's themes--though I'll admit it's probably more ambiguous than I'm implying.

One song for today as my phone battery is about to die and I kinda just listened to this one song several times in a row instead of moving on:

AISHA, Naoki Hashimoto - Necessary Discrepancy:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_BwHtr-87U

Estimated Score: 100

I do believe this is the first song with any Esperanto lyrics to be nominated, so that's an interesting first.

So, this is another of the epic progressive metal songs and one of the better ones. As usual, I'm fondest of the lighter portions of the song--particularly everything for the first three and a half minutes, and the more emotional climax that comprises the last minute of the song. Between them is a more intense metal section that is good enough--or to put it more directly, I love 2/3rds of the song and like the other part well enough, in spite of its heavy use of drums, that this song pretty easily slides into provisional first place.

There's some fun duality between the two singers and the various phases of the song, I'm getting way too into that last minute of the song--like "I want to give this part more than 100 points" into, and I see no reason to pretend the song would ever score less than 100 points. It is possible for other songs to place higher in a ranking without ties, so I'm not going to jump directly to declaring this the winning song of the post ranking... but I think it's been a few years since I wanted to award something more than 100 points, so things are looking pretty good for this track right about now.
