#31 - Mockingbird

Livid.

Indisputable is the fact that without Mockingbird, what little resistance there was to the Society would be nonexistent. The founder, funder and financier of the Secret Six is an individual shrouded in mystery. Some of their decisions seem odd, confrontational and testing. Others are far, far more impressive and strategic, often stemming from information that seems stolen right from the Societys own files and playbooks. But whatever Mockingbird is, they have made an enemy of one of their own recruits - Cheshire, who took down the House of Secrets and made life more difficult for the remaining Secret Four, as theyve transitioned into a branch of the resistance against Darkseid. Whatever the reasons for his choices, Mockingbird awaits next contact, the next step in the Sixs war ready to be laid bare before them.

For me, the idea that the Society - which has a stranglehold on the United States - is fractious and prone to in-fighting only really reveals itself once you have a sense that villains are not entirely united... that's interesting stuff to me. Here, the chaotic deviant off-shoot of real society, villainy, has formed its own twisted pastiche of what is meant to convey peace and order. And, out of that, once again, a chaotic deviancy forms in the Secret Six. They question the status quo just as villains did before in the superhero-run world of yesterday. At that heart of the new chaos lies Mockingbird, whose lack of clear identity disguises whatever motivation lies beneath. But here's someone not to be trifled with - vast resources, privileged information, and a capability to reach out to someone across the world with seeming ease. Mockingbird is terrifying, when you think about it. And yet, this Mockingbird's goals, borne out of the deviancy of deviancy, align with Waller's, at least for a moment. Evil comes around to good, given enough motivation.

#30 marks a milestone; from here on in, everyone left has been drafted, and only four of them come from the bottom half of the board!
