#33 - Spectre

The Wrath of God.

Some time after the Wrath of God was separated from its previous host, Hal Jordan, Aztar became convinced that the source of all sin in the universe was the result of the enduring use and manifestation of magic. As such, it has become the Spectres unending mission to eradicate all uses and sources of wizardry and sorcery, often in a brutal, cold-hearted way. The party has witnessed the consequences and aftereffects of this mandate many times -- the deaths of mystics such as Simon Dark, the Hag and Star Sapphire, the destruction of safe refuges such as Brucke der Dunen and the Rock of Eternity, and the quick eradication of the protective network of spells known as the leylines. Those mystics who have escaped the wrath of Gods Vengeance on Earth have chosen to gather in the bar known as Oblivion, all in an effort to stave off the eternal end of magic in its brewing Eighth Age.

I spend so much time focused on the Spectre that I can't help but find myself a bit of a quisling, held hostage by his threat. The Spectre permeates almost every aspect of the campaign, and even though his appearances have been seconds in nature, there is nothing more frightening than the fury of God's own anger bearing down upon you. There is nothing you can do to stop it. And righteous fury is the worst way to die; there's no reasoning with a zealot, after all. The Spectre embodies zealotry better than any other character - with an absence of God, the Spectre must now motivate himself, and in that process, the untethered rage of the Spectre calls out for new purpose. That purpose has become the blithe and unrestrained eradication of sin in the form of magic, and even though he's never going to be anyone's favorite, he certainly will never be far from a player's mind.

#32 is our second-to-last undrafted contestant... and none of you even mentioned this character as a possibility for the list!
