It reminds of the years after 9/11. People were terrified to take their kids anywhere with more than a handful of people because the news was pumping out a new terrorist threat level every other day. What's the benefit of scaring the shit out of people over something that will likely never happen to them? Why are you in favor of that?
nope. that's actually totally fair using that example.

but you know what's not? school shootings.

with 9/11, we have a sample size of 1. it happened one single time, in 2001.

with school shootings, however, we have a sample size far larger. 380+ since 1999.

is that not a lot? more than 1 time is a lot. the fact that it happens multiple times a year, every single year, is a lot. that takes it from a wild crazy event to it suddenly becoming the fucking norm.

it's normal to read that kids got shot up at a school these days, and you argue that there's nothing wrong with that, because it isn't more. no one is fearmongering. it's not fearmongering to tell someone that there is a very, very real chance for their kid to get shot at a school because it keeps happening more, and more and more. it's happening more on an exponential curve.
