while you're correct to point out that wealthy people generally donate to charity to launder their public image, this takes for granted that donating to charity is a good thing in and of itself; without considering what the charity does (or the fact that they get tax exemptions for doing so).

there are think tanks dedicated to fear-mongering and spreading right-wing propaganda, which are, legally speaking, charities.

If I had the time, money and resources id be a lot more actively good than I currently am, but I still consider myself a better person than someone like Elon Musk, whos probably done more good than me.

the process of accumulating and hoarding that amount of wealth inherently requires that people do some of the most unethical shit that it's possible to do. and every "good" thing they do comes with several large asterisks
