Saturday night is the Kentucky Derby. The average horse has a heart weight of 8.5 pounds. Secretariat, the fastest horse of all-time, had a heart weighing 22 pounds. He is the only horse in history to be continuously gaining speed throughout the race and even as he crossed the finish line.

He owns the all-time record in all three races of the Triple Crown: The Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, and his Magnum Opus at the Belmont Stakes. These records were considered unbreakable when they happened in 1973, and 50 years later that still holds true. Also, this was the first Triple Crown win since 1948 and over the last 75 years has only happened 5 times.

But it wasn't just that Secretariat won, he won in style. He went head to head against Sham, considered one of the top 10 greatest horses of all-time.

At the Kentucky Derby Secretariat was dead last and around the first bend he was 10th out of 13 horses. By the time he caught up to the other horses around the second (and final) bend he was in the middle of the track. That means he not only has the all-time record, but he didn't use the shorter inside track to achieve it.

Here's a video of the Kentucky Derby:

The Preakness Stakes was next and again Secretariat was dead last out of the gate. During the first bend Secretariat was in the middle of the track and within 10 seconds passed almost all the other horses. This is considered the greatest bend in horse racing history. He's going so fast it almost appears as if the other horses are barely joggin instead of racing:

Last is the Belmont Stakes, Secretariat's greatest race. There was only 5 horses in the race and Secretariat had good opening position. Sham, again one of the top 10 horses of all-time, tried to go toe to toe with Secretariat and this was the result:
