Considering this game was the one to try and change the formula for Zelda, having a brief ending worked out better than seeing the same one for the 1000th time. I mean, they could have changed the formula in the other direction and made a more interesting ending...that would have been OK. Or at least made an ending that didn't seem like it was waiting for a DLC better ending, which might have been the original idea for Tears? That said, yeah, it wasn't as if it was unexpected.
