Yeah Tears are praised by pros because the lines aren't obvious. Ngl, a lot of decks nowadays follow a blueprint, and Tear Ishizu actually reward you for figuring out off the wall lines or even not activating some effects out of anticipation of needing it down the line instead. You can just activate everything and win, mind you, but in mirrors or playing out of a deck that drew well, sometimes it's better to do other things.

I think one of the more interesting playstyles in my recent memory is PUNKs which actually have you keep track of LP as cost on top of other things like needing a decent hand resource. Sadly in most plays people devolve them into a single linear combo deck, which is why it does so bad outside the select players who bothered to learn the actually many many lines which lead to even better boards
