Does your laptop have any USB-C ports that support DisplayPort alt mode? (If any are Thunderbolt, they support it; but non-Thunderbolt ports might support it too.)

If yes, those are your first choice; use an adapter with those. If you run out, HDMI is next choice (you can get adapters). Only when you've exhausted all other options, consider DisplayLink-type adapters (which usually attach to a USB-A port) or wireless solutions like MiraCast. Note that it might be possible to attach two monitors to a single DisplayPort-capable USB-C port, depending on the hardware involved.

This is because DisplayLink and similar work by creating a virtual screen, sending the image data (compressed) over regular USB data channels, then decompress and display it. This can result in lag, and artifacts at high frame rates. It's really only suitable for basic tasks.
