In under Qin law the punishment for letting prisoners escape was death, so Liu bang just decided to free the remaining prisoners and make a run for it. Him and some of the prisoners ended up forming a squad and ended up over throwing the Qin dynasty. Would have probably never happened if losing prisoners didn't have such a harsh penalty. Qin dynasty was doomed from the start. Pretty much everyone hated him.
