basically gary plauchet was a father of 4 in baton rogue louisiana in 1984 and one of his sons, jody plauche, was kidnapped and groomed and repeatedly sexually assaulted by his karate instructor. after 10 days of captivity the fbi found the kidnapper and victim in california and flew the victim back to his family. jody initially denied he had been sexually assaulted but a rape kit was done when he was rescued and the results came back about a week after he was returned to his parents. after finding out his son had been sexually assaulted, gary found out from a news employee the time doucet would be flown back into town in custody and went to the airport and was talking on a pay phone when the police were perp walking doucet by him. he fired a single shot into doucet's head which eventually killed him the next day. the shooting was caught live on the news and has been viewed tens of millions of times.

gary was initially charged with second degree murder but that was eventually pled down to manslaughter and he received a 7 year suspended sentence and 5 years probation along with 300 hours of community service. he never served any prison time. the case was controversial at the time and remains so to this day. police and the judge later expressed that a conviction would have been highly unlikely and mental health experts testified gary had a mental break when he found out his son had been sexually abused. the trial/sentencing judge expressed that gary was not a threat to the public and gary lived out the rest of his life in baton rogue as a model citizen. jody became a victim abuse advocate and author and is successful and providing a positive impact for victims and professionals to this day.
