I always figured we're already past the point of no return. Like even if we're not already over the cliff we have too much momentum to stop ourselves before going over the ledge.

Part of the big issue with this is that the worst case scenario isn't "We're all gonna die" its "Life is going to get vastly worse for the people on it" and that disconnect means a lot of people simply ignore it because of stuff like

The rock that is planet earth is going to be here a couple more billion years regardless of what we do with it, but that doesn't mean it'll be remotely habitable for humans either.

This isn't a situation where we can all save the day in the 11th hour like a movie, and each of these final warnings are more "okay heres ANOTHER LEVEL OF SHIT THATS ABOUT TO GET MUCH WORSE" because we can't be bothered to do anything about it.
