Its playerbase moved on to the special edition (about 22k players on there and extra 2k still playing the og version rn. not bad for an almost 12 year old single player game lol). also skyrim numbers didn't drop to the 70k range till 3 months after release and it had a lower 24 hour record peak than HL (was only like 280k on steam) so higher player retention. Fewer pc gamers when it released in 2011 tho tbf. I wonder how well the next elder scrolls will do --- I'm a Taurus.
