#19 - Atrocitus

Rage is borne too often from tragedy, and if anyone knows injustice in this universe, it would be the beings of Sector 666. After the Guardians' first policing corps of the universe, the Manhunters, went absolutely stark-raving mad, an entire sector found itself the victim of something so massive, so unimaginably heinous and widespread, xenophobia as a concept is too narrow in its scope to describe it. Few worlds saw any survivors after years and years of war between the Guardians and their creations. On Ysmault in particular, one being gestated in his rage, incubated in the boiling blood of his entire race. Biding his time, waiting, anger bubbling and bubbling until it boiled over.

And from the rage of the crimes inflicted against Sector 666, Atrocitus was born.

Our party - particularly Bloodfruit and Data 7 - seemed quite enamored with Atrocitus when they met him. The leader of the Red Lantern Corps may be in possession of a frightening visage and dominating personality, but he was well-spoken, fluent in the dialogue of what equality and peace was, favoring a universe unburdened by the malfeasance of the Guardians' oversight. This struck a chord in particular after a tour of Ysmault - the Red Lantern homeworld - revealed so many beings like Atrocitus - once broken by grief, now empowered by the idea of revenge. This concept of vengeance fuels Atrocitus' Corps - and oftentimes, vengeance can be conflated with the idea of justice. For so many party members, the conflict of the Red Lanterns' primary purpose - to wipe the Green Lantern Corps from the universe stands in stark contrast with the dream of justice realized, and the complexity of this tenuous alliance has played a different role in each PC.

The various facets of how to view Atrocitus' very gray morality has been a treat to witness in each PC's decisions. As we march further forward in the War of Light, I highly suspect that Atrocitus and his edicts will continue to have a starring role in every decision throughout the space-based quarter of the campaign, and I look forward to that. After all, sometimes you just get mad as hell, and you can't take it anymore.

Hint: Violets aren't blue.
