I'm glad I didn't send in my rankings that I had completed, because looking through these some of them are mean mostly because I didn't anticipate anyone possibly liking them.

Oh man did I hate Popstar so much more than literally any other movie in this ranking. It was in like in a tier by itself, with another tier of nothing in between my 29 and it to help quarantine it from Popstar. Below is my edited, more friendly write-up. I was busy to I actually have a couple of old write-ups I might post to, but at least I made it back in time to see the death of Popstar.

30) Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping N/A (not deserving of a letter grade)

I feel like part of me is just spiteful this got included over Walk Hard when Walk Hard is 1000x the movie this is trying to be. But this was such a bad movie that I left it genuinely in a bad mood. Like I was just stewing that this existed. I love Lonely Island so I should have been exactly the target audience for this but somehow every single thing about it was wrong. It is this humorless, witless, joyless exercise that actually makes me feel dumb for liking the The Lonely Island. Like seeing this makes me feel like maybe I've been stumbling the past decade or so around with an untreated head injury and that is the only reason I liked The Lonely Island. Because if they made this, then I cannot possibly believe that anything else they made was good.

Honestly my biggest problem is that the music in this movie is awful. How is there not a single fun song in this entire movie? I think the issue likely is that they aren't The Lonely Island, right? The whole central conceit of this movie is that the main character is a douchebag, so the are writing songs for this fictional douchebag and it hampers what they can do creatively. That's what I'm blaming it on at least. I can't imagine their talent evaporated overnight unless maybe they hit a gypsy woman with their car right before filming started and that was the curse she inflicted on them. The highlight for me is the Macklemore parody where they just repeatedly shout not gay but thats such a dated reference of a song everyone forgot about that I feel like no one is even going to know what the hell thats referring to in ten years. And, even with that song, the joke that Macklemore's song was awful and he felt the need to proclaim how straight he was in a "gay anthem" was made by dozens of other people. Their one good idea was obvious and lazy and had been made before, so I felt like I couldn't even enjoy that.

Something that bothered me way more than it should've was all those famous cameos that add literally zero to the movie. How many times can they do the haha this famous musician says what an icon the main guy is and how he inspired their music joke? Turns out, all of the times. Thats like half of the jokes in this movie I feel like. It is all lazy, low effort humor and it feels like it was made by someone who had once vaguely heard of the concept of comedy second hand and then was tasked with making a comedy movie.

Also, I might not like Andy Sandberg at all anymore. It was like the end of The Usual Suspects where I get the fax and slowly have the horrible realization that the unfunny comedian I was looking for this entire time was Andy Sandberg all along. I've complained about both Will Ferrell and Seth Rogan at this point, but Andy Sandberg is yet another guy who doesn't seem capable of having any range. I liked Brooklyn 99 but I've been putting off rewatching it for some reason I couldn't really articulate, but after watching this maybe it is because I just don't like Andy Sandberg and he was subconsciously a drain on that entire show. The other two Lonely Island guys cant act and I feel like everyone other than Tim Meadows is actively trying to suck the enjoyment out of this movie. The one time I actually laughed out loud was the Tonee? Joke. I wanted to rank this higher just because Tim Meadows is actually very solid here, but I just cant because I hate everything else about this.
