In Britain we have magnetic coins.

The 1pence, 2pence, 5pence and 10pence coins are magnetic and stick to magnets.

The reason for that is because the 1p and 2p coins used to be made out of copper and the 5p and 10p out of cupronickel (an alloy of copper and nickel with strengthening agents like iron and manganese) but when that became to expensive to use the Royal Mint changed to using copper plated steel for the 1p and 2p coins and cupronickel plated steel for the 5p and 10p coins.
