Echoes maps are flat out bad. They were already bad back in Gaiden, like a notable step back from FE1, and Echoes was too faithful in remaking them. The other gameplay changes are more personal preference, but the maps being shit is borderline objective. That said, I it's presentation is top notch. So I say it's still worth a try.

Path of Radiance is honestly so easy that you won't really miss not having Turnwheels. The most dated piece of it is its combat presentation, which leaves a lot to be desired. The biggest issue is it's painfully slow. Even with animations turned off things just take forever. It's also pretty ugly and the battle screen doesn't present combat data like the rest of the series. Thankfully, if you are playing on your official Nintendo PC, you can speed all that up. That said, Tellius has probably the best overall world building of the series, one of the few stories in the series I consider good, straightforward gameplay, and the Base Camp feature is so so so much better than My Castle, the Monastery or Somniel. Absolutely worth playing.
