Basically demand is way higher than supply. Waiting lists can be up to 10 years, by then the models become discontinued for the next model. It's the same with certain extremely exclusive cars, not exactly rocket science how a rare, high quality, in demand product can increase in value if there's a demand for it.

Aftermarket sales for watches is a whole other than compared to retail. Most trade for below retail of course, but as mentioned, certain very highly sought after models trade for higher than retail. When we talk about vintage models in good condition, some of those may have costed 3-4000 at retail and are worth in the 100s of K today.
