I've been working with AI stuff for a while so it's pretty funny to see people who didn't immediately recognize the GPT posts here.

But it does highlight the biggest issue here for me: It's a brand new type of tech literacy that will cause a lot of trouble in society as we go through the adoption curve. Like computers and internet, but maybe even more accelerated. 10 years instead of 30 kinda thing. There's a good amount of people who haven't even caught up to computers and the internet yet really, and they are easily exploited.

The other thing is that there IS an adoption curve like any other tech. It doesn't magically break those rules. The old methods aren't going away for a long time, even as AI gets exponentially better. Just like we still use incandescent lightbulbs and such.

As for potential, I think it can be really good. The current demos are all about generating text and images, which means it's being used to replace artist labor. But obviously we need to use it to replace other much more troublesome soul crushing types of labor, instead of stuff that humans are ok with like art. Hopefully the next wave of AI tech is focused on that. I know a few companies working on that. But you never know.
