While I mostly enjoyed the ending of FFX, it had one huge problem for me. One of my favorite things about X-2 is that it explicitly calls out that problem from X and addresses it!
I hated how Tidus was so against Yuna sacrificing herself, only to then essentially sacrifice himself instead. I know why it kinda had to happen, but I didn't like how no one pointed out the hypocrisy. It was just treated as a valiant thing. In X-2, I loved how Yuna acknowledged the bitter feeling she'd been left with, and she refused to allow anyone to sacrifice themself this time around. She didn't like that plan. It sucked. That quote is a meme for a good reason, it's a funny line, but I unironically love it because it shows how far she's come as a character. Yuna starts X as someone ready to sacrifice herself, then ends X-2 as someone who won't allow sacrifice at all. So good.
It wasn't hypocritical at all. Yuna sacrificing herself wouldn't have killed Sin, it would have just brought the Calm for a couple of years. Tidus, on the other hand, sacrificed himself to get rid of Sin for good. The outcome is drastically different so you can't really compare the two. It's like saying it's hypocritical to be against someone sacrificing their life for a sandwich but then you sacrifice your life for a friend. Apples and oranges.Tidus cannot exist in a world without Sin, but Yuna can. Well, until X-2 ruined everything anyway.
