We <3 Katamari had a remaster leak, so I'll finally get to check it out. Speaking of competent Metroidvanias, Astalon: Tears of the Earth might be worth checking out. It has a lot of creative ideas and it's pretty well executed, though the game's main conceit may or may not click with you. There's two twists - you swap between three characters, all of whom have unique powers, and you have to start from the beginning of the castle every time you die (progress is kept).
