I did end up watching sugar apple. Episode one was more adventure and fighting and it seems like the show is just about the one trip they are on. It feels very shoujo. We got some action at the end but it was fairly underwhelming animation wise. I guess I'll give it another episode but it's a drop candidate.

Also watched Ars which was pretty cool. Definitely interested to watch more of that.

Then I watched endo and kobayashi which was pretty solid. Two people playing an otome game can somehow speak to the main male character and accept that fact really quickly and decide to try and save the villainess. I gotta say, all these villainess anime make shoujo VNs seem extremely samey. It could practically be the same VN all of them are parodying as far as I can tell. It's even more samey than isekai.

So far a lot of good anime but not really any great anime (outside of sequels). Tomo-chan and Ars seem the most likely to become great.
