#2. Elden Ring

I don't know what to say about Elden Ring that hasn't already been said by everyone else. It feels like the culmination of everything FromSoftware has been building towards since the very first King's Field. What really blew me away was thinking I had a grip on how big the game was and then realizing oh no this map is actually several times larger than this as it continuously expanded and zoomed out further and further....and that's not even counting the subterranean areas that also take up a large portion of the map just undocumented. Taking that elevator down to Nokron and seeing just this massive underground city for the first time was probably the moment of this game for me and made me realize what I was really in for. Much like Breath of the Wild I think this game raised the bar for what the design of an open world game could and should be. I played through the entire game at launch though and was able to Kamehameha sword my way through the entire game before they patched that so my build is probably useless now, but I'll still come back if they ever release a story expansion.
