For one I was never really all that passionate about it but I was pushed by my parents who are middle eastern and wanted at least one engineer kid to brag about to people. I was good at math and physics so I was chosen as tribute and basically forced into it. Then I hated it but also experienced so much sexism and discrimination that it made me hate it even more. I thought of going the PM route or sales engineer but ended up sort of just trying recruiting engineers instead and that clicked for me and been doing it ever since. Its fun because I can follow what my technical candidates are saying and know exactly how to match them to the right role and my hiring managers love working with me for that reason. I cant code so I wont pretend I can sniff that out but I know enough to know if a candidate is bullshitting about their technical depth which I will let the interviewers know so they can dig deeper on tech screens.
