(and at least partially improvised from what little I can understand of people who know what they're talkjing about say about this)

i mean, like most jazz, it's almost entirely improvised. the only prewritten parts are the theme - the main melody that's played at the beginning and the end. everything coltrane and tommy flanagan (the pianist) play in between is made up on the spot.

anyway, yeah, didn't expect this tune to last long when i discovered you're not particularly into jazz.

Ahh... there's that particular set of notes that triggers the good shot of nostalgia... it's a bit of a lower pitch and much smoother (and poppier) than standard jazz.

yeah, seems like the jazz you enjoy the most is smooth jazz, which most people agree... isn't actually jazz. in jazz for dummies, there's an entire chapter about smooth jazz that explains why it doesn't qualify as "real jazz." that's not to say it's bad music, though - in fact, i love smooth jazz! too bad i didn't nominate any songs in that style for this topic. though you talked about spyro gyra in the previous topic, which is very much a smooth jazz band, so you've already heard some of it.

i like those disney afternoon songs too, though they're a bit too short for my taste.
