Yeah it looks like the same kids movie I've seen 20 times with a Mario skin on it, they have the formula down so that they don't get any negative reviews but it's otherwise pretty bland. I'd see it as a joke. I don't think Miyamoto would have let this fly, but I don't think he cares anymore.
