It's less doomy and atmospheric than the debut or MoR, and less ambitious than Vol. 4 and SBS. It's almost their pop record. But holy shit, this is just banger after iconic banger. Listening to it in full for the first time in ages reminds me how completely absurd the tracklist is here - side A in particular could basically function as a greatest hits of early heavy metal. Sabbath are the best hard rock band of that era by a mile, and this album is probably the best single piece of evidence as to why.
